Land of Leather

//Product: Wassily Chair

One of the contenders to the Barcelona's 'cool chair crown' is Marcel Breuer's Model B3 Chair, shown here with a psychedelic cushion and nice sheepskin rug. First produced in 1925 the chair managed to be truly unique through its material selection and manufacturing process. I admire it because it is a pioneering design: its continuous tubular steel frame was a first and its stretched leather challenged seating preconceptions. And it is actually a lot comfier than it looks!

Turn Me On

//Product: Mr. P

Although it may not be classed as 'important' design, this light can be classed as good design as it is a conversation starter. It is always noticed more than any other light I own. All because it has a phallic for a switch and it either appeals to the child in people or even slightly embarrasses them. Either way I like it, probably because I am big child.

Viva EspaƱa

//Product: Barcelona chair

The Barcelona chair, if nothing else, is an example of 'timeless design'. Over 80 years old and it still fits perfectly within even the most modern spaces. It is one of the more commonly recognised pieces of design and is often considered one of the most influential chairs ever made. And it is even comfy to sit in. The Barcelona chair forms the base of my personal 'good design' collection and in fact is my collection for the moment due to lack of funds.

Give The Dog a Bone

Product// Dog Light

A dog is man's best friend and now it just got even better. Forget all those boring lights: standard, angle-poise, or chandelier because there is a new category: K9. This is a brilliant balance of comedy and style yet still managing to be subtle and have enough character to fit into almost any surrounding. Overall I feel this is a very rare type of product which is alluring but doesn't take itself too seriously.

Album Art

//Product: Record/CD case display

In these modern times of iPods and downloads, album art (which used to be an integral part of an album's "personality") is now usually confined to a couple hundred pixels on a screen. Whereas vinyl is a retro niche, CDs are heading that way too, it is always good to have the actual tangible product and a big CD collection will always be cooler than large iTunes Library. This piece of design realises that and goes that bit further to make your collection even cooler.

The design is so simple it is genius. It is basically a tiny shelf to display the case of the record that is currently playing. A perfect blend of practicality and aesthetics it proves to be an ever fluctuating piece of art on display.

Milking it

//Product: Cow Shaped Milk Jug

There is a fine line between tacky and beautiful and with tongue firmly in cheek this design proudly take its place on the beautiful side of that line.
//
Where does milk come from? Cows. So why not pour your milk straight from a cow to your glass? There is comedy about this product however there is also an underlying subtle sensibility. It almost seems at home with the other "more sensible" tableware as it does not have painted on eyes or spots. However, it deviates from the mundane and may even charm the earnest of guests.

Got Wood?

//Product: Wood Block Clock

This is a block of wood. However, when this block of wood is plugged into the wall it tells you the time.

The brilliance of this product lies in its simplicity. A material which is almost extinct in the electronics business housing the very thing that shuns it is very refreshing. The juxtaposition of new and old technology gives the product a certain warmth and personality and with this, it sticks two fingers up at the modern iPod sheen aesthetic which has become industry standard.
